
Google gets better at spotting scams
Google is getting much better at spotting scams in Search. It says “advancements in AI” have helped it to get rid of “20-times the number” of scam-related content during the last year. The tech giant has also reduced fake number scams by over 80%.
Pinterest’s MAUs are up again
Pinterest added 17m new users in Q1 2025. The visual discovery app now has 570m people logging onto its platform every month as its slow but steady growth continues. Pinterest CEO Bill Ready also touted “AI advancements” that are empowering users to shop internationally.
He added: “We’re driving performance for advertisers and winning market share, giving us a solid foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.”
Google searches in Safari take surprise fall
The number of Google searches in Safari has fallen for the first time in two decades. Ironically, Apple VP Eddy Cue believes AI is the reason why. While testifying during Google’s antitrust trial, he said new tools like ChatGPT are eating away at traditional search’s once dominant position.
Google responded, stating that it’s still seeing “overall query growth”.
Snapchat’s Snap Map now has 400m users
Snap Map, a location-sharing feature within Snapchat, is very popular with teens and young adults. Snap VP Ceci Mourkogiannis says it’s now “one of the most used mobile maps in the world” after it hit a 400m MAU milestone in May.
The feature lets users discover nearby hotspots and view public images shared by others in specific locations. Other companies have taken note of the success — Instagram is reportedly working on its own “Friend Map” to show the real-time locations of close buddies.
TikTok sale saga not finished yet
TikTok is likely to get even more time to close a deal for its US operations. President Donald Trump admitted he has a “little warm spot” in his heart for the app and will extend the deadline again if a deal isn’t struck in the coming weeks. Trump already gave TikTok another 75-day stay of execution in early April.
Threads starts testing video ads
Threads has started testing video ads with a “small number” of advertisers. The 19:9 and 1:1 ratio ads will appear in users’ feeds in between organic posts. The move comes just a month after Threads officially launched ads to advertisers globally.
ChatGPT now generates more traffic than X
ChatGPT’s soaring popularity saw it overtake X in traffic numbers in April. The AI platform logged 4.786bn total visits last month, way ahead of X (4.028bn). The latest surge for ChatGPT was fuelled by the popularity of its new Ghibli-style image generation feature. However, it had already been steadily making gains in 2025 and is now one of the world’s most visited websites.
